A QR Code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed for the automotive industry in Japan.

A barcode is a machine-readable optical label that contains information about the item to which it is attached.

QR codes are generally used to save the marketing people the trouble of writing the words, “Visit our site for more info”. But, in certain circumstances, they are being used in some very creative ways of engaging you, the consumers.

At freshOps we are using it to record your staff's Time & Attendance Onsite for Apple and Older Android Device users.

To Check In using the QR Code, Employees simply Scan the QR Code using the freshOps Employee App after hitting CheckIn.

To do this

  1. Press Checkin on the relevant Visit, and the devices Camera will be launched

  2. Place the phone's camera approximately 5-10 cm away from the tag.

  3. Slowly move the camera away from the tag slowly.

  4. Stop once you get to 20 cm away from the tag. If you're still not checked-in, repeat steps 1 - 3.

  5. If successful, you'll receive a Success message on the App, and notice you have more details available to you such as Site Notes and the Task List.

So why don't we use QR for all Devices as a CheckIn method?

QR Codes are just an image, and images can be replicated by photocopying, photographing and printing. So Employees could replicate the Code and potentially check-in when not onsite, however, freshOps has developed a solution to reduce this type of gaming.

When your team Checkin via QR, not only do we photograph the background where the tag is scanned, but we use GPS to pinpoint where the Tag is being checked in or out from.

To verify that a team member has checked it correctly at site, you can check the photo, and you would expect to see a photo of say the front door with the tag on it or the tag in the cleaning room and secondly, you'd check where they checked in or out with the GPS Pin Drop.

In this image, we can clearly see that the tag is on the Front Glass of the premises.

GPS Pin of Tag Location

Upon hovering across the GPS Pin Symbol with your mouse, a Pop Up appears with the GPS Location.

NOTE: The GPS Pin only activates the GPS at Checkin for that instance, so doesn't provide any further battery drain of continuous GPS Tracking.
