How 1Roof Verifies Information and Why It Matters

That’s why we use a flexible, progressive onboarding process designed to match your level of activity with the right amount of verification. The more you want to do on the platform, the more information we may need to verify, not to restrict access, but to ensure everyone is protected, supported, and set up for success.

Here’s how that works and why it matters.


Progressive Verification Based on Platform Use

When users first join 1Roof, only basic verification is required. As users begin to rent, list, host, or manage higher value activities, the system requests additional layers of verification. This could include confirming identity, linking a financial account, verifying a phone number or email, or reviewing driving history in applicable cases. Each step is designed to reduce risk and increase trust for all parties involved.

For example, someone renting out high value gear might need to confirm their real-world identity. Someone organizing an event with thousands of dollars in ticket sales may be asked to link a checking account or verify available funds. Likewise, someone who wants to drive or operate a vehicle on the platform may need to confirm they have a valid license and a clean driving record. This tiered model ensures that as the responsibility or value of a transaction increases, so does the accountability while still offering multiple paths to participation.


How We Verify, and What We Look At (Securely)

To make this process seamless, we use secure, industry-standard tools that help verify the right information, only when needed:

  • Identity and Bank Verification
    We may ask you to link your checking account through a secure, third-party service. This allows us to confirm that you are the owner of the account, and when relevant review non invasive indicators like your average daily balance. This helps us determine whether a deposit is required for certain bookings or if you qualify for "credit backed" actions like booking without upfront payment.

  • ACH Payments and Damage Coverage
    In the event of damage or missed payments tied to an item rental or service, the system may draft or return funds through authorized bank links, only under strict terms you've agreed to. This helps reduce platform risk and avoid drawn out claims processes.

  • Card Payments and Payouts
    Whether you’re paying for something or getting paid, we rely on a secure third-party processor to connect your credit card or business account. This system handles both one time payments and wallet reloading, as well as payouts to users who earn money through rentals, referrals, or event hosting.

  • License and Driving Record Review
    For features like ridesharing or vehicle rentals, we may request access to your motor vehicle record. This helps us confirm that you have a valid license and that there are no major violations that would prevent safe participation. Again, this only applies when it’s directly relevant to how you’re using the platform.

  • Basic Email and Phone Verification
    As a minimum safeguard, we verify your email and phone number to make sure you're reachable and to prevent impersonation or fraudulent accounts. These lightweight steps help maintain a reliable community without interrupting the flow for everyday users.


Your Data Is Secure. Always.

1Roof does not store sensitive personal data on our servers. All verification, financial connections, and background checks are handled through trusted third party services that specialize in secure data management and encryption. These partners use bank grade security, including multi factor authentication, tokenized credentials, and encrypted APIs. We never see your full banking credentials, and no one on our team can access your private information directly.

Verification data is only used for the purposes you've agreed to, and is never sold, shared, or reused beyond the scope of what's required for your activity on the platform.
