Rewards have to be applied before staking a player. They are not applied automatically.

Before placing your stake, make sure you select the reward you would like to apply. You can do this by tapping the gold item below the amount you are going to stake the player for.

Afterwards, you will see the stake slip highlighted in gold. This is how you know the boost is being applied.
