Guide to Using the Ultimaker S5/S7 Material Station with 3DPrinterOS

1. Setting Up the Ultimaker S5/S7 Material Station

  • Unboxing and Installation: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the Material Station beneath your Ultimaker S5/S7. Ensure that both units are securely connected.

  • Power Connection: Plug in the Material Station and turn it on. The station should automatically sync with the Ultimaker S5/S7 upon startup.

2. Loading Materials into the Material Station

  • Supported Filaments: The Material Station supports a range of materials, including PLA, ABS, and composites. Verify the compatibility of any third-party materials.

  • Loading Process:

    1. Open the Material Station bays.

    2. Insert spools of filament into the designated slots, ensuring they are seated properly.

    3. The station should automatically detect the materials and load them into the printer’s feeder.

  • Material Assignment: The Ultimaker will automatically recognize and assign materials to the appropriate extruders, optimizing for dual-material prints if required.

3. Setting Up the Ultimaker S5/S7 with 3DPrinterOS

  • Connecting to 3DPrinterOS:

    • Follow this walkthrough to connect the Ultimaker S5/S7 to 3DPrinterOS.

    • Check connectivity by sending a test job through 3DPrinterOS to ensure smooth communication.

Since the Material Station handles material management independently, no additional configuration in 3DPrinterOS is necessary for material changes or updates.

4. Printing with the Material Station

  • Queue Management: Load multiple spools into the Material Station for uninterrupted printing. The system will automatically switch to the next spool when one runs out, preventing pauses during long print jobs.

  • Monitoring the Print Job: Use 3DPrinterOS to monitor and manage print jobs as usual. The Material Station will handle all material feeding and swapping autonomously.

5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting Tips

  • Regular Checks: Periodically clean the filament feeder and check for wear. Ensure that materials are stored in a controlled environment to prevent moisture absorption, especially for hygroscopic filaments like Nylon.

    Dehumidifier.

  • Troubleshooting Material Station Issues: If the Material Station does not feed material, check for filament jams or improperly seated spools. Restarting the Material Station can often resolve minor issues.

6. Additional Resources

  • For In-Depth Material Station Guide: For detailed steps, refer to Ultimaker’s official Material Station user manual.

  • 3DPrinterOS Support: For questions related to managing print jobs within 3DPrinterOS, consult your organization’s 3DPrinterOS admin guide or contact support via email at support@3dprinteros.com or through the "Support" tab in the Cloud.
