How to Enable Printer Locations

The Printer Locations feature is a paid module and must be activated for your account.
In order to activate it, please ensure your organization is using an Education or Enterprise license and contact oscar@3dprinteros.com to request activation.

Once enabled, administrators will have access to location settings.

Step 1: Configure Printer Locations

  1. Navigate to Organization Settings:

  2. Add Locations:

    • Under the “Locations” section, add a list of locations relevant to your organization.

    • Locations are simple entries without visibility or permission settings.

Step 2: Assign Printers to Locations

  1. Access Printer Settings:

  2. Select a Printer:

    • Open the Settings for the desired printer.

  3. Assign Location:

    • Use the “Printer Location” drop-down menu to assign the printer to a predefined location.

  4. Save Changes.

Step 3: Printing Workflow with Locations

When starting a print job, the Print dialog will display a flow if the Printer Locations feature is enabled:

  1. Select Location:

    • Before showing any printers, the system will prompt users to select one or more locations from a drop-down menu.

  2. View Available Printers:

    • After selecting a location, only printers assigned to that location and accessible through Workgroup permissions will be displayed.

Step 4: Filter Printers by Location

  1. Printer List:

    • Go to the Printer List on the Printers Page.

    • Use the Location Filter (multi-selection drop-down) to display printers in specific locations.

    • The filter state is retained, so it remains active even after closing and reopening the filter bar.

  2. Live View Wall:

    • The same Location Filter drop-down is available in the Live View Wall.

    • Select one or more locations to view the live status and activity for printers in those areas.

Notes on Permissions

The Workgroup functionality manages user access to printers.

Locations do not introduce additional permissions or visibility settings.
Users will only see printers they are permitted to access via Workgroups.
