How to create an Industrial (Virtual) 3D Printer in 3DPrinterOS
Step 1: Go to the Printers Page
Navigate to:
https://cloud.3dprinteros.com/#/printers
Step 2: Open the Create Menu
Click the three dots located to the right of the "Add Printer" button.
From the dropdown menu, select:
"Create Industrial Printer"
Step 3: Configure the Virtual Printer
Choose a printer model from the dropdown list.
Assign a host to the virtual machine.
Set a name for the printer.
Step 4: Create the Printer
Once all fields are filled out, click Add.
That’s it. Your Industrial (Virtual) 3D Printer is now ready to use.
How jobs work on an Industrial printer
An Industrial printer is a printer entry in the Cloud that is not connected to a physical machine, so jobs queued on it are never sent to any printer. Its queue has two extra actions that regular printers do not have, Download and Finish.
Start does not send anything to a machine. It only records the time the job started.
Finish marks the job as completed and calculates the print time from the gap between Start and Finish. The job then appears in the finished list and in the user's history and statistics the same way a normal print would.
Move carries a job to another printer without duplicating it, so the user who submitted it stays the owner and is not billed twice.
Virtual printers cannot currently receive sliced Formlabs files. Because each Formlabs slice is bound to the single physical printer it was sliced for, it cannot be sent to or queued on a virtual printer. See How to connect Formlabs 3D printers to 3DPrinterOS for details.
