To comply with the requirements of transforming towards a circular economy, certain definitions need to be more clearly defined.

The EU Taxonomy requires that products be manufactured in a manner that makes it easy to dismantle and refurbish the product.

The EU defines 'refurbishment' as preparing/modifying an object that is waste or a product to restore its performance or functionality within the intended use, range of performance and maintenance originally conceived at the design stage, with the result of making a fully functional product.

It further defines dismantling as a process comprising all the activities required to remove all the valuable components from an object, which can be re-used in another object.
