5miles: an online learning tool

5miles is an online learning tool that helps you learn relevant skills you can immediately apply in your work. You will learn how to process, analyse, and visualise data efficiently, design visually powerful presentations, communicate online effectively and automate daily tasks to be more productive. The learning method is focused on learning in 5 minutes a day, but you decide how much you learn, what you learn and when you learn.

The idea behind the learning method

At 5miles you don't have to deal with explanatory videos but rather with bit-sized learning through challenging and relevant content. As this content contains real-life data and the material is presented in small chunks, it is transferred more quickly from your short-term to your long-term memory. In this way, you spend only a few minutes a day learning taking much bigger steps in developing your skills in the meantime.

In addition, the learning method is aimed at learning by doing: first, you are given a data set in which you can figure is the answer. Sometimes you can get stuck because you are not yet familiar with specific actions. After providing the answer, you will receive an explanation. It explains which actions are needed to answer the question. As you don´t know where to find the right answer, getting stuck on the question can sometimes be difficult. However, most people learn much more from this because you make just that little extra effort to find the answer yourself, which makes it easier for you to remember everything.

A challenge everyday

You can learn with 5miles by completing challenges. This is a short assignment containing real datasets and practical assignments. On the days that you can set, you receive an email with a link to your challenge of that day. When you have completed this challenge, you can continue with your work or do another challenge.
