In this article, you will read more about the Learning preferences. In the Learning preferences, you can change several things about what, when and how much you want to learn at 5miles. You can change settings about the recap questions, Experience Points and about mobile experience.

To access your learning preferences, first go to your profile. You can find your profile by clicking on the circle with the icon in the top right corner.

Recap questions - about what

Recap questions are short questions (without a Question file) about a challenge you have already completed. These questions are shown before you start a new challenge. The recap questions are meant to refresh your memory by repeating old questions and to see if you still remember what was discussed in a previous challenge.

You can change two different things here: the source and the subject.

Source

Under 'Source' you can see which track you are currently working on. In the example image it says: 'Currently learning Intermediate PowerPoint 2'. You can click here whether you want to receive the recap questions on a challenge from the current track (in the case of the example Intermediate PowerPoint 2) or on a completed challenge from any track (a track from Intermediate PowerPoint 1, for example, or even another subject).

Subject

If you choose Current track under source, the 'Subject' heading disappears. This is because the recap questions are about the current track then, which means that the subject is already determined.

If you choose Random track under Source, the 'Subject' heading appears. Here you will see the subject you are currently working on. In the example you see: 'Currently learning Excel'. You can then choose between the options Any subject and Current subject. If you choose Any subject, the recap questions can be about any subject you have ever done a challenge on (Excel, VBA, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power BI or Teams). If you choose Current subject, then the recap questions will be about the subject you are currently working on (in the case of the Excel example).

Recap questions – when and how many

Here you can set when you are shown recap questions for doing a challenge. You have two options here: Just daily and Always. If you choose Just daily, then you will not receive a recap for each challenge you complete, but one or more times (see 'Number of batches' below). If you choose Always, you receive recap questions for every challenge you complete

Number of batches

When you have chosen 'Creation of recaps' for just daily, you can set how often you want to receive a batch of recap questions. Do you want to receive this only for one challenge? Then choose 'One'. Do you want to receive this for several challenges? Then choose 'Multiple'.

Recaps per batch

Here you can set the maximum number of recap questions you will receive each time. You can choose between a maximum of 1 question, 2 questions or 3 questions. The reason for choosing 1 question may be that you want your memory to be refreshed briefly, but that you can then quickly continue learning something new in the next challenge. If you like a short repetition of previous challenges, you can choose 2 or 3 questions.

5miles Experience Points (XP) and mobile experience

You can choose to set the earning of Experience Points (xp). You can get Experience Points for different elements within 5miles, such as creating challenges and inviting colleagues. The Experience Points are meant to motivate you and show how much you have done in 5miles.

XP

You can turn XP earning on or off. Some people find it motivating to see their progress through points, others do not. Set your preferences so that learning is the most enjoyable for you!

Mobile experience

Given the nature of the challenges and the need to download Excel or PowerPoint files (Question and Solution Files), 5miles is best used on a laptop or computer. Therefore , 5miles cannot be used on mobile devices by default.

However, if you would like to do the challenges on your smartphone or tablet, for example while on the train, you can change this here. Select "Enable" to make 5miles available for these devices. If you choose Disable, you will not be able to use 5miles on your smartphone or laptop.
