Physical Therapists are experts in movement and function, who do not just treat people who are ill. Most of a Physical Therapist's program is about preventing injury, loss of movement, and surgery. Physical Therapy treatments are functional training and therapeutic exercise. Physical Therapists take a "hands-on" approach, but they also educate patients to take care of themselves and to do certain exercises on their own.
Depending on the needs of a particular patient, Physical Therapists may also "mobilize" (perform certain types of movements at the end of your range of motion) a joint or massage a muscle to promote proper movement and function. Physical Therapists may also use hot/ice packs, electrical stimulation, and other equipment to help during your treatment.
