In some cases, physical therapy techniques can be painful. For example, recovering shoulder range of motion after shoulder surgery may be painful. You may experience pain when you first start physical therapy because your body is not used to the movements. However, for many patients, the primary objective is pain relief. This is frequently accomplished with hands-on techniques, modalities such as electrical stimulation, vaso compression, and/or heat or cold therapy. Movement often provides pain relief. You will be provided with appropriate exercises to help with pain relief, range of motion recovery, strength and endurance.
