Let's face it: no one wins every opportunity. Though it can be tough to watch projects slip away, missed opportunities can still provide insights to strengthen processes in your company and improve your close ratio.

Mark the opportunity as "Lost"

When you know you are not going to win an opportunity, you can mark it as "Lost" and remove it from the Opportunities view.

To mark an opportunity as Lost, click the 3-dot menu on the opportunity tile and click "Lost." You will see a modal that will let you specify why the opportunity was lost.

Cloud will show some pre-added common reasons in the modal, and you can select one of the reasons from the "Lost Reason" dropdown. You can optionally include a brief description to provide more context.

Add and customize "Lost" reasons

You can add new lost reasons and edit or delete the existing ones.

  • To add a new reason, click "Create a new opportunity lost reason" at the bottom of the dropdown. In the modal, add a new reason.

  • To edit or delete an existing reason, hover over the reason in the dropdown and click the Pencil icon on the right. In the modal, change the name of the reason or click "Delete" to delete the reason.

Analyze lost opportunities

Over time, if you want to analyze why you're losing opportunities, you can always go to the "Reports > Sales Results" in the left navigation menu, scroll down, and see the "Lost Opportunities" pie chart.

The chart will show a breakdown by lost reasons and the total amount lost for each reason.
