Offer your guests the chance to remove ingredients they don’t want, or add ones they like

Ingredients can either be added to a product as an extra, or removed from the standard product. Take, for example, the case of a pizza. You want to allow your guests a simple way to remove any ingredients that they don’t like, without them having to write a comment like ‘No olives please’. Similarly, you might want to make all your pizza toppings available as extra ingredients, so guests can add whatever they want.

Set up Ingredients in the Ingredients view.

Navigation bar: Administration > Menu

Page: Ingredients

To create an Ingredient, follow these steps:

  1. Click Add ingredient

  2. In the panel, give the ingredient a name and a price.

  3. Click Add ingredient

  4. Repeat steps 2 through 3 to add all the ingredients you need.

Note that the price of an added Ingredient is added to the product prices. However, when an ingredient is removed, the product price does not change.

Fresto provides a list of frequency used ingredients so you don’t have to type everything when you set this up. Click Import from Fresto for a list of common ones. If you add Ingredients in this way, you will still need to edit them to give a price.

At this point you have created a series of Ingredients, but they are not associated with any particular product. To make it so that a product can actually use the Ingredients, you have to update the product itself. Do the following:

Navigation bar: Administration > Menu

Page: Menu

  1. Click the product you wish to modify with an Ingredient.

  2. In the panel, click Modifications.

  3. In the dialog, click the Removable Ingredients dropdown and select all the options that you want to allow the customer to remove from this product.

  4. Click the Extra Ingredients dropdown and select all the options that you want to allow the customer to add.

  5. Click Update Product to save your changes.

The product you have edited now has the Ingredients you have associated with it.

In the POS and the online menu, product Ingredients can always be viewed and updated by clicking on the product in the order, and clicking the Modify dish button.
