Product groups let you keep track of different groups of products to see how well they are selling. For example, you might want insights into how much revenue you get from drinks vs food, or understand your relative income from different types of wine or special menus.
Set up Product groups
Navigation bar: Administration > Menu
Page: Product groups
To create a Product group, follow these steps:
Click Add Product group
In the panel, give the Product group a name.
Click Add Product group
Repeat steps 2 through 3 to add all the Product groups you need.
At this point you have created one or more Product groups, but they are not associated with any particular product. To associate a product with a Product group, you can update the product itself, but you can also associate all products in a Category or Subcategory to a product group.
To assign an individual product to a Product Group, do the following:
Navigation bar: Administration > Menu
Page: Menu
Click the product you wish to assign to a Product group.
In the panel, click Product group.
Select the option that applies to this product.
Click Update Product to save your changes.
To assign an individual product to a Product Group, do the following:
Navigation bar: Administration > Menu
Page: Menu
Click the three dots on the Category or Subcategory that contains the products you wish to assign to a Product group, and go to Edit.
Click Product group.
Select the option that applies to these products.
Click Save to save your changes.
Some products are assigned automatically to a Product group. For example, an Open Product (one with no set price) will always be assigned to the Open Product Product group.
Note that Product groups and Categories are different things. Product groups are for reporting purposes, while Categories and Subcategories are for arranging and grouping similar products in the Menu.
If you assign a whole Category (or Subcategory) to a Product group, all the products inside the Category will immediately be assigned to that Product Group. You can still update individual Products afterwards to change their Product Group.
The products you have edited are now associated with one or more Product groups. To see how they are used, see the article on Reporting.
