The Smart Contact Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered device that works by utilizing both your SmartCam and SmartBridge devices.

The Contact Sensor will notify you any time something is opened, closed or left open. The sensor comes in two parts - a small panel which contains a magnet and a larger panel containing a sensor. The sensor and magnet form a connection, and once this connection is broken the device will send an open signal, notifying you of this real time change in app.

The smaller side can be placed anywhere within 2 cm of the larger side. As soon as the smaller side moves farther than 2 cm, it will send an open signal notification.

The device is a great way to discreetly extend motion coverage throughout your home/office on doors, windows or even notifying you when someone has raided the fridge.

Device Setup

When installing the Contact Sensor, you must first have:

  • The most up-to-date version of the Hedge App, signed into your account.

  • A SmartCam, already set up and visible in the Hedge dashboard.

  • A SmartBridge that is connected to your SmartCam. Please ensure that the LED light on the back of your SmartBridge is a solid blue before attempting your Contact Sensor install.

If you need assistance in setting up your SmartCam, check out the How to install your SmartCam article.

To install the device, please:

  • Open the Hedge App

  • Tap on the + icon

  • Tap on the Smart Contact Sensor icon, from the list of displayed devices

  • Follow the in-app instructions to complete the device registration

Note: If you have more than one SmartCam and SmartBridge, upon installation of the sensor you will be asked to choose to which SmartBridge you would like to connect the device. We recommend choosing the SmartBridge closest to where the device will be kept, to improve range, connectivity and overall user experience.

Positioning

Due to the compact design of these devices they have a wealth of use cases. Good places to position your device include, but are not limited to:

  • Windows / Doors

  • Cabinets and cupboards

  • Safes

NOTE: Always test that the two panels of the device are in range before securing using the adhesive strips on the underside.

Battery Replacement

The batteries for your Contact Sensor are replaceable. You need one (1) CR2032 battery. To replace the battery, pop off the bottom panel. There is a divot on the side of the sensor that may help in removing the bottom panel.
