Demo E-Verify

A guide to simulated E-Verify case statuses for demos, training, and testing

Your WorkBright demo account includes a simulated E-Verify environment. No cases are submitted to the government E-Verify system, so you can safely test workflows, train your team, and run demos without affecting real employees or real cases.

To make demos predictable, each simulated case status is determined by the employee's first name on the I-9 being countersigned. Use the rules below to generate the exact case outcome you want to show.

Closed Authorized

If the employee's first name starts with a letter from A through M, the case is created with a Closed Authorized status. Use this to show the standard, successful E-Verify outcome.

Photo Match

  • If the employee's first name starts with a letter from N through Z, the case is created with a Photo Match status. From there, you can demonstrate both resolution paths:

    • Confirm the photo matches: the case moves to Closed Authorized.

    • Reject the photo as not matching: the case moves to Tentative Non-Confirmation (TNC), a non-authorized status.

Submission Error

To generate a case with a Submission Error status (useful for showing how errors are reported back to the administrator), submit the I-9 with a US passport number that is 10 or more digits long.

To resolve the error, resubmit the I-9 with a valid 9-digit passport number. The case then moves to Closed Authorized or Photo Match, depending on the employee's first name.

Other Case Statuses

The statuses above do not represent every possible E-Verify status, but they cover most demo and testing scenarios. Any other status you see falls into one of two categories:

  • Processing: the case is in progress, and no administrator action is needed.

  • Needs review: the case should be reviewed and resolved from the E-Verify dashboard by following the instructions shown there.
