Use the Carta integration to securely sync your employee data with Carta via SFTP. This integration uses a two-step setup flow and requires every employee to have an Employee Number (Unique Identifier) populated before syncing.
Step 1 — Share Shapes' Public Key with Carta
In Shapes, navigate to Integrations > Carta and click Connect.
Shapes generates a public key — click Copy to copy it to your clipboard.
Go to your Carta account and register the public key to authorize the SFTP connection. Follow Carta's SFTP setup guide for the exact steps.
Step 2 — Enter SFTP Credentials in Shapes
Back in the Shapes connect flow, fill in your SFTP credentials:
Field | What to enter |
Host | Your Carta SFTP host (required) |
Username | Your Carta SFTP username (required) |
Port | Optional — defaults to 22 |
Click Save. Shapes will probe the connection — if it fails (wrong host, port, or the key not registered with Carta), the integration won't be marked as connected.
Employee Number Requirement
Carta requires a non-empty Employee Number on every employee row. Here's what happens during each sync:
Employees without an Employee Number are skipped and excluded from the file sent to Carta.
If no employees have it populated, the sync aborts entirely.
Make sure the Employee Number field is mapped and populated for all active employees before running a sync. You can remap it to a different Shapes field via the column-mapping editor in the integration settings.
