[Ads] The Difference Between Spotify Albums, Singles, Tracks, and Playlists (And What Soundlink Can Promote)

Written by Charles Jordan Condez

When you’re setting up your campaign on Soundlink, it’s super important to use the right kind of Spotify link—because not every type of link will work.

This article clears up a common point of confusion: the difference between Albums, Singles, Tracks, and Playlists on Spotify—and which ones Soundlink can promote.

✅ First Things First: What Works on Soundlink?

We’ll explain everything in a second, but here’s the big takeaway:

Spotify Format

Can I use this on Soundlink?

Track

✅ Yes – fully supported

Playlist

✅ Yes – fully supported

Album

❌ No – not supported

Single

❌ No – not supported

🎵 What’s the Difference?

Track = A Single Song

A track is exactly what it sounds like—a single song.

  • This is the link you need to promote a single song.

  • Format: open.spotify.com/track/...

  • Works on Soundlink

Even if your release is called a Single on Spotify, you still need to use the track link, not the album link.

Single = A Release (Not a Track!)

A Single on Spotify is technically a small album—usually with 1–3 songs. When you release just one track, Spotify might group it as a “Single,” but the link they give you is an album link.

  • Format: open.spotify.com/album/...

  • Doesn’t work on Soundlink

If you’re promoting just one song, don’t use the Single/Album link—grab the track link instead.

Album = A Full Collection

An album is a full release with multiple songs. It’s great for fans, but not for Soundlink ads.

  • Format: open.spotify.com/album/...

  • Doesn’t work on Soundlink

Album pages don’t work with our campaign setup—they don’t let us drive direct streams the way track links do.

Playlist = A Curated List of Tracks

A playlist can include multiple songs (your own or others). These links are fully supported by Soundlink.

  • Format: open.spotify.com/playlist/...

  • Great for promoting multiple tracks

Playlists are perfect if you want to showcase an EP, highlight a few singles, or promote a vibe or genre.

🔍 How to Get the Right Link

Here’s a quick way to get the correct track link, especially if you’ve only released one song:

  1. Go to the song on Spotify.

  2. Click the three dots next to it.

  3. Tap Share > Copy Song Link.

  4. Use that link in your Soundlink campaign.

Boom—you’re good to go.

✨ Final Tip

If your link isn’t working on Soundlink, chances are it’s an album or single link, not a track or playlist. Double-check the format and make sure it starts with:

  • open.spotify.com/track/... or

  • open.spotify.com/playlist/...
