Completing Tax ID Requirements When Applying for Payment Processing
A valid Tax ID is required to complete all legal verifications related to anti-terrorism and money laundering laws. For more information, click here.
When applying for payment processing, the same information used to file for the Tax ID on the SS-4 form will help guarantee that your application is approved.
If a copy of the SS-4 form is unavailable, you can search for your Tax ID on the IRS's website.
If you are not registered as a business, individuals can apply using their name as the organization's name and their social security number as the Tax ID.
Why Do We Need to Provide a Social Security Number for Our Principal Shareholder?
NOTE: Your Social Security Number is not stored at any time.
Businesses classified as money transmitters are within the scope of the new FinCEN regulations. These new FinCEN regulations call on the CDD Final Rule, which states that we must "identify and verify the identity of customers."
Personal information, as name and Social Security Number, is needed to ensure that the person opening the account is not financially fraudulent/a financial terrorist. This complies with the US Patriot Act. Our payment partner needs this data to verify the identity of the principal shareholder to complete the underwriting process.
This verification is done by an OFAC check. These checks run your information through a database managed by the U.S. Government. The check aims to limit an individual's access to financial products and services that could be used to carry out illegal activities, such as money laundering.
