Compare and Recycle condition options explained
Compare and Recycle condition options explained
Updated over a week ago

Choosing a condition for your phone is not as easy as it seems. On our website we ask a number of questions to give a value range.

On C&R we give one price for each of the condition options but if we feel the condition is different to the declared condition we will pay the lower condition price. So we wanted to give you a bit more info on what these condition grades mean.

What counts as good?

Your device must power on, show only minor signs of use, and have both fully functional hardware and software.

Minor signs of use means very light scratching on the edges but not deep scratches, cracks, bends, broken parts or liquid damage.

Any scratches on the screen shouldn't be visible when the screen is on. And scratches on the screen or back will affect the value of the device more than scratches elsewhere. If your device has any scratching that you can feel with your fingernails even if there is one or they are small in size, your device is unlikely to be good.

Light scratches might look something like this...

It's also useful to note that we don't have a minimum battery health requirement but an item would need to have good battery health (ie over 85%) to fall into this 'good' category.

It's important to note that good tracks with our website pricing range for 'barely used' so you may see this phrasing on your tech health check.

What counts as poor?

Your device must power on, can show moderate signs of use, and must have both fully functional hardware and software.

Poor is possibly too harsh a word as it actually just means moderate signs of use.

This moderate scratching or multiple light scratches on the edges and or back but not deep scratches, cracks, bends, broken parts or liquid damage.

Any scratches on the screen shouldn't be deep, long or multiple. And scratches on the screen will affect the value of the device more than scratches elsewhere.

The scratches might look something like this...

It's important to note that poor tracks with our website pricing range for 'some signs of use' so you may see this phrasing on your tech health check.

What counts as broken?

Well firstly it doesn't actually need to be broken!

It could have a fault or cosmetic damage such as a crack, dent or a deep scratch (that can be felt regardless of length of the scratch). To get the broken price from most recyclers your device needs to power on and cannot have liquid damage.

The broken price is an 'up to' price and so if there is significant cosmetic damage or an internal fault the price will be lower.

It's important to note that this tracks with our website pricing range for 'well used' so you may see this phrasing on your tech health check.
