Overview
In Subi, you can set different shipping rates for subscribers compared to one-time product buyers. This guide will show you how to configure your shipping settings in Subi to offer subscription-specific rates, allowing you to incentivize customers to subscribe with tailored shipping options.
How It Works
One-time purchases are processed through your Shopify checkout and use Shopify's shipping settings. However, you can use Subi’s Shipping Profile feature to create a separate shipping profile specifically for subscriptions, offering the following options:
International rates
Custom rates
Price-based rates
Weight-based rates
Free shipping rates
Important Notes:
If you already have shipping profiles set up in Shopify, Subi will create a distinct shipping profile that only applies to subscriptions.
The subscription shipping profile does not impact your existing shipping profiles.
Shipping profile rates are applied to both checkout and recurring charges.
Create a Subscription Shipping Profile in Subi
From your Subi panel, go to the Settings tab.
Navigate to Shipping > Custom Shipping Profile.
Click on Create New Shipping Profile to start the process.
Select a name for your shipping profile and click Done. (This name will help you recognize the profile on Shopify).
A new shipping profile will be created for you.
Click on Edit Profile, which will take you to the Shipping and Delivery Settings on Shopify.
Set your preferred rates and shipping zones.
Important note: Do not add any products directly to the profile at this step.
You can add as many rats and shipping rates as you want:Return to your Subi panel > Shipping Profile and click Add Plan.
Add your desired subscription plans to this profile.
Editing a Subscription Profile
Editing a shipping profile is only possible when the subscription plan is not added. To edit a shipping profile in Subi:
Disconnect the profile from your subscription plan.
Edit the shipping rates and zones in Shopify's Shipping and Delivery settings.
Reconnect the subscription plan to finalize the profile settings.
Shipping Profile Result
Customers will see separate shipping sections for one-time purchases and subscriptions on your Shopify checkout page. Separate shipping rates will apply to both checkout and recurring orders.
Shopify checkout, by default, displays the cheapest shipping option for subscriptions at checkout. So you can not offer multiple shipping options for subscription products:
- The choice between home delivery and pickup
- The choice between different shipping vendors
- The choice between slower and faster shipping methods
- The choice of your favorite pickup place
Local Delivery and Pickup
You can offer local delivery or pickup at checkout by enabling Delivery Methods in Shopify. Once this feature is activated, eligible checkout orders will have the option for local delivery or pickup, and the same method will be applied to recurring orders as well.
Learn more about configuring local delivery methods here in the Shopify Help Center.
How to Offer Free Shipping on Subscription Orders
To enable free shipping for subscriptions:
From your Subi panel, go to the Settings tab.
Navigate to Shipping > Free Shipping.
Click on Add Plans and select your desired subscription plans for the free shipping profile.
You can also check the Free Shipping box for each Subscribe & Save plan in the Plans tab of your Subi panel.
Limitations of Free Shipping for Subsequent Payments
Currently, free shipping applies to all payments once enabled. The app doesn’t support automatic configuration for subsequent orders.
Workaround:
Manually apply a free shipping discount code after the first order.
Automate the process using Shopify Flow, ensuring subscription tags are active for functionality.
Adding Free Shipping Labels to Subscription Options on the Widget
To indicate that subscription products qualify for free shipping, you can add a "Free Shipping" label to subscription options. This customization can be implemented using code and will typically appear on all subscription widgets once configured.
If the app embed is active, developers or the support team can securely make these updates using CSS.
What If I Want to Change the Shipping for Existing Subscriptions?
If you want to update shipping for existing subscriptions, you can follow these steps to update the shipping rates yourself:
Navigate to each subscription contract individually.
Click on Edit.
Update the shipping price under the Subscription Details section.
Repeat for all subscriptions that need the update.
