Hardware Replacement Guide

We want to make sure that you are always equipped with the latest technology to ensure the fastest and most reliable data transfer.

We are therefore replacing the Vimcar hardware for one or more of your vehicles. We have already informed you about this by e-mail. You can easily carry out the replacement yourself with the help of these instructions.

Please first select which Vimcar product you are using. This is important as the replacement differs:

Vimcar digital logbook (for employees, self-employed)

You can carry out the swap both via the logbook app and via the web version (fahrtenbuch.vimcar.com):

Please select the app you are using first:

New Logbook-App (since 2025)

New logbook app

  • Step 1

    Log out under “Profile” and then log back in.

  • Step 2
    Click on the “Garage” tab and select the desired vehicle.

  • Step 3

    Select "Hardware assignment" and then "Switch hardware".

  • Step 4

    Read the information carefully and click on "Assign hardware". Now scan the QR code of the new hardware. You will find this directly on the device. Alternatively, you can also enter the 15-digit hardware ID ("IMEI") manually.

  • Step 5

    ‍Click on "Enter" and complete the setup of the new hardware.

  • Step 6
    Almost there!

Disposing of old hardware

Simply use the return label in the package or the link in the email and send the old device back. Alternatively, you can take the device to a collection point for electrical appliances.

Please do not dispose of the old hardware in the household waste - the device contains a battery.

Old Logbook-App

  • Step 1

    Log out under “My profile” and then log in again.

  • Step 2

    Click on “Vehicle details” in the menu and select the desired vehicle.

  • Step 3

    First select “Register new dongle” and then “Next”.

  • Step 4

    Now enter the new 15-digit hardware ID (“IMEI”). You will find this directly on the new device. Then click on “Next”.

  • Step 5
    Confirm the new hardware ID (“IMEI”). The “Install connector” step then appears, which you confirm again by clicking “Next”.

  • Step 6

    Almost done!

Vimcar Fleet logbook or Fleet Geo (for fleet managers)

Please visit the website fleet.vimcar.com and log in to your customer account. Depending on the number of devices to be exchanged, repeat the following procedure. As a fleet manager, you can approve the plug swap for the drivers and share this article with them.

  • Step 1

    Refresh the website and select “Vehicles” in the side column. Next, click on the desired vehicle for which you want to update the hardware.

  • Step 2

    Select the “Information” tab and click on “Register new hardware”.

  • Step 3

    Now follow the instructions and read them carefully. Make sure you have the correct connector to hand.

  • Step 4

    Now enter the new 15-digit hardware ID (“IMEI”). You will find this directly on the new device. Then click on “Next”.

  • Step 5

    Confirm the new ID (“IMEI”) after a final check.
