LCD Lookup Guide

The LCD Lookup tool is a useful resource for quickly finding the ICD-10-CM codes based on contractor type(s) for a given CPT® or HCPCS Level II code. This tool can save you time and effort when researching codes for medical procedures and services. In this guide, we will walk you through how to use the LCD Lookup tool and its features.

To access the LCD Lookup tool, simply go to the 'Coding Tools' tab on our website. From there, you will see a dropdown menu with various coding tools. Select 'LCD Lookup' to open the tool.

The LCD Lookup tool allows you to search for codes in multiple ways. You can search by code, keyword, LCD/Article Title, LCD/Article ID, contractor type, and locality of the medical practice. This makes it easy to find the specific code you are looking for.

Please note that as of January 2019, code information is now being pulled from LCDs and put into Articles. This means that when searching for an LCD by code, you may be directed to an Article instead. This change was made by CMS to ensure that code information is promptly and efficiently updated when coding changes occur.

Once you have entered all the necessary information and clicked 'Search', the LCD Lookup tool will display the allowed diagnosis codes for the selected code. You can also download the entire LCD policy to review documentation requirements and other requirements under the LCD for proper payment.

If you have a Basic, Pro Fee, or Complete Coder subscription, you will have access to additional features such as the ability to view the LCD policy directly from the tool and download the policy in PDF format.
