Coding Cases

Welcome to our help center article on coding cases! In this article, we will guide you through the process of coding cases on our Practicode 2.0 platform. Let's get started!

To help make this learning process even easier, watch this quick tutorial video!

To begin coding a case, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Practicode 2.0 account.

2. Click on the number of cased located under the "Pending" section of your dashboard.

3. Select the case you want to work on from the list of assigned cases.

4. Review the case details and documentation provided.

5. Click the Case ID to open the code entry area and to start the case timer.

6. If you want to change the case you are working on, click the "List" tab to toggle back to the case list. This does not stop the case timer until you enter another case. To go back into the case you opened, click the "Abstract" button.

6. The code fields you see will be determined by the cases assigned to you. You will only have one primary diagnosis per case.

Tip! If there's not one code that can be primary, choose one code and enter it in that field then put all other codes in under the Secondary Diagnosis area.

7. To enter code assignments, read the documentation and enter the code in the Code field. You can also type terms into the description area for a listing of conditions that contain the information you entered. For example, type " [[tab]] Hypertension" and click "ESSENTIAL (PRIMARY) HYPERTENSION". To clear a selection, click the red icon to the right-hand side.

Tip! Clicking the tab button on your keyboard will complete the code entry.

8. Enter codes in the Secondary Diagnoses if needed/desired.

9. You do not need to enter a decimal point, the system will automatically enter it for you. To add more fields, click the green + icon shown on the right-hand side.

10. If a code you entered is invalid, the system will show you "Invalid Code" in the Description field and will highlight the fields in red. Type "j04.9 [[tab]]" as shown here.

11. Finish adding the remaining codes to the case.

Tip! To add more rows for code entry, click the green + symbol. To remove added rows, click the red - symbol.

Alert! The system will not allow you to submit cases with codes listed as invalid or if there's a code - age or code-sex mismatch.

12. The notes area is used to post notes about the case for your own purposes and does not require follow-up by staff. Type "This area is to make notes to yourself or to your instructor."

13. When you are done coding the case, click the "Submit Case" button and then click "Continue to Submit".

Congratulations, you have successfully coded a case on our platform! If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team. Happy coding!
