ABC Legal does not accept service completed through a security camera or video doorbell. This includes speaking with an individual through a doorbell camera and leaving the documents on the doorstep for them to come out and retrieve once you have backed away. Even if the person agrees to this arrangement, it cannot be counted as a valid service.
Why We Do Not Accept This Method
The identity of the person on camera cannot be reliably confirmed.
There is no way to verify that the documents were actually picked up by an eligible recipient.
A doorstep drop-off is not the same as handing the documents to the recipient, and it puts the validity of the service at risk.
What You Should Not Do
Do not leave documents on a doorstep or porch after speaking with someone through a camera or doorbell.
Do not ask the person to come out and retrieve the documents after you step back.
Do not log the attempt as a completed service.
Do not describe the camera interaction as service in your notes.
What to Do Instead
Politely ask the person to open the door so you can hand them the documents directly.
If they decline or do not respond, keep the documents. Do not leave them behind.
Record the attempt in ABC Mobile as unsuccessful, following the documentation requirements below.
Return at a different day or time, following the standard guidelines for service attempts.
Recommended Door Script
"Hello, I have documents for [Name] that I need to hand over in person. Could you please come to the door so I can give them to you directly?"
If they decline or do not come to the door: "Understood, thank you. I will try again another time."
