Choose the right setup for Kustom Shipping Assistant

Get started with Kustom Shipping Assistant in your store. Configure it either with your own shipping methods in Abicart or via an external…

Show the customer's shipping options directly in Kustom Checkout and choose where shipping methods, prices, and rules should be managed.

This guide applies to you if you have Kustom Checkout V3 in Abicart. Kustom Shipping Assistant (KSA) belongs to that checkout and is not a general setting for other payment providers. Kustom Checkout is available in Go, Plus, and Pro. KSA can be activated without an extra Abicart fee when you use Kustom Checkout; carrier agreements, shipping, and any external TMS services have their own terms and costs.

1. Decide where shipping will be managed

Abicart's own shipping methods

Choose this setup if you want to continue managing shipping methods under Settings → Shipping in Abicart. KSA moves the customer's choice to the Kustom checkout window. Abicart's rules for available shipping methods, countries, shipping rates, and free shipping thresholds are still used. A free shipping threshold on an existing method does not need to be replaced with a new rule in Kustom.

This setup does not select a specific carrier service point for the customer from a list or on a map. Selecting a carrier or a shipping type in the admin does not book a shipment either.

Follow the setup guide for Abicart's shipping methods for activation, countries, rates, and checking free shipping.

An external TMS service's shipping methods

TMS means Transport Management System. In the external setup, the shipping options and their prices come from the service connected to Kustom. Countries, free shipping, and any in-store pickup options must therefore be configured there. Abicart's existing pricing rules should not be assumed to control these external options.

The customer can select a pickup point when the connected service and the carrier service support it. Also, verify that the selected service point information can actually be passed on to the integration that books the shipment. A service point selected in the checkout is not in itself proof that a shipping label will have the correct service point.

Follow the guide for KSA with an external TMS for that setup. Do not confuse its requirements for the Abicart shipping method with the settings for multiple native Abicart methods.

2. Prepare your choice before activation

  1. Decide which of the setups above you will use.

  2. Check which countries and customer types should be able to place orders.

  3. Set prices, any weight ranges, and free shipping rules in the system that will manage shipping. Weights are needed for weight-based pricing, but not just because you offer multiple flat-rate shipping methods.

  4. Check carrier agreements, any shipping integration, and how the shipping label will be created.

  5. Review any custom checkout code that selects the shipping method. The code must work with the selection being made within Kustom Checkout; do not disable other checkout code without first checking its purpose.

3. Check the checkout and delivery flow

After activation, check the relevant shipping countries, options, and prices in the checkout. Check shopping carts below, at, and above a free shipping threshold, as well as different weights if you use weight-based shipping. Also check the pick-up in store option if it is offered.

If you use a shipping integration, you need to separately check how the shipping choice is used for booking and label printing. KSA displays the shipping choice; it does not replace carrier agreements or the entire shipping booking flow.

Quick start

  1. Make sure you are using Kustom Checkout V3.

  2. Choose Abicart or an external TMS as the source for the shipping options.

  3. Set up countries, prices, and necessary carrier information according to the correct guide.

  4. Activate and check both the checkout and the subsequent shipping flow.

Subscription and costs

Kustom Checkout is available in Go, Plus, and Pro. KSA activation with Kustom Checkout has no extra Abicart fee. External TMS services and shipping integrations may require their own add-ons, agreements, and fees. The shipping cost to the carrier is not included just because KSA is activated.
