Abode Lock Installation

Fitting the Abode Lock to your existing deadbolt

Written by James Raine

The Abode Lock replaces the interior thumb turn of your existing deadbolt. It works with most standard single-cylinder deadbolts and includes four adapter fittings to match different tailpiece shapes. The wireless keypad mounts separately on the wall near the door.

TIP

Watch the step-by-step video tutorial in the original help article at help.goabode.com for a visual walkthrough of the full installation process.

NOTE

Complete pairing in the Abode app before installing the lock on your door. Once installed it is harder to access the pairing button.

What is in the box

• Abode Lock body

• Wireless keypad with mounting plate

• 4 deadbolt adapter fittings (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow)

• Mounting plate and screws

• Lock stabilizing tape

• Keypad mounting screws, plugs, and adhesive

• USB-C charging cable

Step 1. Remove the existing interior lock assembly

1. Use adhesive tape to secure the keyed exterior side of your existing deadbolt so it stays in place during removal.

2. Make sure the existing lock is in the unlocked position before you start.

3. Unscrew and remove the thumb turn from your existing deadbolt.

4. Remove the full interior assembly. Keep any parts you may need.

Step 2. Choose the correct adapter

If you know your deadbolt brand or model, check the Deadbolt Compatibility Chart to select the correct adapter (A, B, C, or D).

Step 3. Match the adapter to your tailpiece

If your lock is not in the compatibility chart, try each adapter on the tailpiece to find the right fit. The correct adapter will have one triangular tab pointing up when the deadbolt is retracted (unlocked position).

Tailpiece orientation

Recommended adapter

Horizontal or vertical

Blue adapter

Angled at 45 degrees

Yellow adapter

Note that the tailpiece orientation may differ depending on which side of the door the hinges are on. Adapters can be rotated to get the correct fit.

Remember that your deadbolt’s tailpiece may be oriented differently depending on the side of the door that the hinges are on. Shown below are examples of three standard deadbolts that are illustrative of this.
