Starting on September 1, 2024, ActionVFX will transition from its a-la-carte product purchasing model and AVFX+ Subscription to a new unified credit-based model. Access to our library will only be available through this new credit-based subscription. In this article, we'll go over how this new system works and how contributors get paid.
What is the New Credit-Based System?
Instead of buying individual products at varying dollar amounts, starting on September 1, customers will simply choose monthly or annual subscription plans that grant them a set number of credits each month or year. Customers can then use these credits to "purchase" products from our entire library. All assets and collections will cost a set number of credits, so instead of a clip's price being listed as $19, customers would see the price as 1 or 2 Credits.
What is the Value of a Credit?
Individual assets generally cost between 1 and 4 Credits, with full collections costing up to 30 Credits depending on collection size. The number of credits a customer receives each month/year varies depending on their subscription plan. In order for contributors to get paid fairly, each credit a customer has holds a monetary value.
The monetary value of each credit differs based on the customer tier (e.g., Individual, Startup, or Enterprise). The value of a credit ranges from $9 per credit for individuals up to $249 per credit for high-end Enterprise customers. This is a range, which means credit values also fall in-between $9 and $249. For example, credits on the Startup tier are valued between $30 to $49.8 per credit.
How do Contributors Get Paid?
The revenue split with contributors does not change. The 50/50 revenue split continues under this new credit-based subscription model, ensuring that you receive your fair share of the earnings generated by your assets. As mentioned above, each credit holds a monetary value and our system keeps track of that value. When a customer spends their credits on your product, your revenue share will be 50% of these credits' value.
For example, let's say the listed price of one of your single assets is 1 Credit. Considering a credit's value ranges from $9 to $249, your 50% share of the revenue would range from $4.50 up to $124.50. If your collection costs 20 Credits, then your 50% share would range from $90 up to $2,490!
How does this new system benefit contributors?
We believe this new credit-based subscription model is a win-win-win for ActionVFX, our customers, and every contributor. Contributors will benefit because:
With subscribers no longer being restricted from accessing contributor products on the old AVFX+ subscription plans, your assets will gain more visibility and have a higher chance of being downloaded and used in projects.
Customers no longer have to be convinced to get out their wallets to buy your products. By eliminating the “sting” of single asset purchases, customers will have the freedom to use their credits to dive into our library, try out new assets, and use your products more often. This will put your work in front of more eyes and potentially increase its usage.
Our subscription plans are tailored to different customer segments, from individual creators to large studios. While individual subscribers enjoy affordable access to your assets, our Startup and Enterprise plans ensure that studios pay a premium based on their size and usage, maximizing your earnings.
Other than credits, what else does this subscription provide customers?
The more subscribers we can attract to our platform, the better it is for contributors. To accomplish this, the ActionVFX Subscription provides customers with a lot more features and value than just monthly credits.
For example, all paid subscribers get access to the Essentials Catalog, which is an assortment of over 1500 ActionVFX-made assets that users can download freely without spending credits. Subscribers also get 4K and RAW downloads of our Practice Footage library.
It costs ActionVFX to provide these extra features, which is why we price each plan slightly higher than the base price per credit.
What to expect in the next few months:
As with all major transitions, we expect a ramp up period as new customers adopt this new subscription model. Some contributors may experience a dip in revenue in September compared to prior months. As more subscribers join, our hope is that customer engagement will eventually surpass previous norms.
Your monthly sales report will change slightly to better reflect this credit-based system. You'll receive your first sales report during the month of October detailing the sales made from September 1 to 30.
We are excited to continue to work together to create exceptional assets for our subscribers. We firmly believe that contributors like you are the lifeblood of our operation, and we want to do everything we can to champion you and ensure your success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at contributors@actionvfx.com. We value your feedback and are committed to supporting you throughout this transition.
