You can improve print quality by changing the printer’s darkness using the Zebra Setup Utility. This process applies only to Zebra printers.
Tip: Clean the print head on the printer before changing your printer’s settings. Refer to the printer manual for cleaning instructions.
The following steps walk you through changing your printer’s darkness setting:
1. If you haven’t done so already, go to https://www.zebra.com/us/en/products/software/barcode-printers/zebralink/zebra-setup-utility.html and download the free Zebra setup utility for your Zebra printer.
2. Open the Zebra Setup Utility.
The Printer Configuration window appears.
3. Click on Configure Print Quality (see Figure 1).
The Configure Print Quality Wizard appears.
4. Select the Print sample labels and choose print Speed and Darkness check box and then click on Next (see Figure 2).
You also have the option of manually selecting speed and darkness.
5. Choose how many labels you’d like to print and then click on Next (see Figure 3).
Several different labels will be printed using different speed and darkness combinations. Each label will be marked with a two-character Label Identifier.
6. Select the Label Identifier for the label you prefer and then click on Next (see Figure 4).
The print speed and darkness you selected appears in the window (see Figure 5).
7. Click on Finish or Next.
If you click on Next, you will have the option to save settings to a text file before sending them to the printer (see Figure 6).
