Attaching the Solar Panel Bracket to an Aethair PRO

If your solar panel bracket arrived separately, or without the Expansion Cartridge attached to it, follow these instructions to attach it to your Aethair PRO.

The process is the same as attaching any of the interchangeable mounting adapters to an Aethair PRO. For video instructions, see Expansion Cartridge / Backplate Access.

What you'll need

  • Solar panel bracket and crossbar

  • 4 mounting adapter screws

  • 2 carriage bolts and 2 nylon locking nuts

  • Screwdriver and wrench

Before you begin, make sure to work in a clean area and be sure your Aethair PRO is powered off and unplugged.

Step 1: Open the expansion cartridge

First remove the screw on the bottom of your Aethair PRO, then slide the expansion cartridge out. The expansion cartridge is the part that attaches to the solar panel bracket.

Next, remove the plastic cover from the expansion cartridge. Then carefully lift out the board and its attached cable to expose the mounting holes in the casing. For a walkthrough, see our video instructions on accessing this area. ​Caution: Do not bend or press on the black connector at the top of the board. Even slight movement can weaken or disrupt its contact with the board.

Step 2: Attach the expansion cartridge to the bracket

If there was an existing mounting adapter attached to your Aethair PRO, please remove that before attaching the bracket. Taking the bare cartridge casing, align the holes with the holes on the bracket's mounting plate. Fasten them together with the four mounting adapter screws.

Step 3: Reassemble the cartridge

Place the board and cable back into the casing, then reattach the plastic cover with the 4 included screws. Handle the top connector with the same care as in Step 1.

Step 4: Mount the Aethair PRO

Slide your Aethair PRO down onto the expansion cartridge, then secure it with the included screw on the bottom of the Aethair PRO. If the crossbar and/or solar panel is already attached to the bracket, you may need to adjust its angle to slide the Aethair PRO into place.

Step 5: Attach the solar panel crossbar (if not already attached)

Secure the crossbar to the bracket with one carriage bolt and one nylon locking nut on each side. Adjust the angle, and tighten until snug. If the solar panel is already mounted to the crossbar, have a second person hold the panel while you fasten it.

Step 6: Connect and power on

Connect the power cable, power on your Aethair PRO, and confirm the device is reporting data.
