Each Public Housing Authority (PHA) serves specific cities, counties, or an entire state. The scope of a PHA's jurisdiction can be found on the PHA's website or on AffordableHousing.com. Section 8 rental assistance can stay with you if you move — whether it’s down the block or to a different state. It is necessary, however, to transfer (also known as "port") your voucher to another PHA if your family is moving outside of the current PHA's jurisdiction.
