Shopify Web Pixels

Shopify recommends using Web Pixels for conversion tracking and will deprecate other methods of conversion tracking in the future.

AfterSell automatically works with Web Pixels. If you are already using Web Pixels, you do not need to make any changes. Conversion tracking will not be affected by post-purchase upsells.

If you are not using Web Pixels, you must switch your existing conversion tracking scripts to Web Pixels to work with post-purchase upsells. To do so, please follow this guide. If you do not use Web Pixels, then your conversion tracking accuracy will be decreased due to missed conversions from customers that close their browser tab on the post-purchase page and never reach the thank-you page.

If you are using Elevar, you can follow the documentation on the Elevar website here.

FAQ

I've previously used a solution suggested by the AfterSell team to deal with conversion tracking pixels in the past, will this still work?

These solutions will still work, but we recommend switching to Shopify Web Pixels. Shopify will eventually deprecate other forms of conversion tracking. Switching to Web Pixels will future-proof your analytics.

Can I track additional products added through post-purchase upsells?

Shopify Web Pixels do not support tracking additional products from post-purchase upsells. The checkout_completed event is triggered instantly once the post-purchase loads to ensure the data can be tracked even if the customer closes the page immediately. This means any upsell items added to the order through post-purchase upsells will not be included in the event data.
