What video formats are best for Video Ads?

This article provides an overview of the various video ad formats available for video ads, particularly on platforms like FB and Google.

Facebook Video Ads

These are short videos that businesses pay to show you while you’re scrolling through Facebook. These videos pop up in different places on Facebook like your News Feed, Stories, or even while you’re watching other videos-and they’re made to feel natural and interesting so you want to watch them.

In our AIM packages, Reach and above there is an option to add video ads. If you choose to include a video ad, simply provide the video link (e.g., YouTube URL) in the designated field on the order screen before confirming your order.

Format: MP4, MOV, or GIF

Aspect Ratio:

• 1:1 (Square) — best for feed

• 4:5 (Vertical) — for mobile-first experience

• 9:16 (Full Vertical) — for Stories and Reels

Recommended Length: 15 seconds or less for better engagement

File Size Limit: Up to 4 GB

Resolution: At least 1080p (HD)

Google Video Ads

Just like Facebook video ads, these are short videos that pop up when you’re watching videos on YouTube or browsing websites that show Google ads. Imagine you’re watching your favorite YouTube channel, and suddenly a quick video appears before or during the video. That’s a Google video ad.

Format: MP4, MOV
Aspect Ratio:
• 16:9 (Standard Horizontal) — ideal for YouTube
• 9:16 (Vertical) — for YouTube Shorts and mobile placements
Recommended Length:
• 6–15 seconds (for bumper ads)
• 15–30 seconds (for skippable in-stream ads)
File Size Limit: Up to 1 GB
Resolution: At least 720p (HD), but 1080p preferred
