First off, congrats on being proactive. In our experience, fundraising success is much more a function of quantity of meetings than anything else. It is critical to supplement investor connects from Alchemist’s Demo Day with your own reach-outs. Make sure to store a list of investors you are targeting in a spreadsheet like the Alchemist Google CRM Sheet.
Here are places to create your own list of investors to target:
Top General Funds
Past founders have attested that with a well crafted email, a cold email to a general partner at a VC fund can convert at 30% or higher -- esp if that partner is a strong fit for what you are doing. So you can also just reach out to VC's that you have identified as strong fits.
Seed Funds
Prior Research based on Verticals
We keep a folder on the Alchemist Google Drive under Resources > Fundraising > Investor Research of past research pulls we have done of investors in various verticals. Please check through that folder to see if there are categories that are relevant to you / your raise.
Angels: Canvas your teams' personal rolodex
Go through your past network of people you know or are connected to. You should be able to generate 15-20 leads at least for yourself. And then do this with the other members of your team.
Any former bosses or contacts that are VPs or above at Fortune 500 firms or equivalent are angels. Look at funding sources tied to different communities you are a part of -- universities, geographies, social groups. Create an exhaustive list and proactively reach out to others.
Alchemist Vault
Please search on the vault for keywords relevant to your business and filter by Investors to see a list. You can also search the spreadsheets we use for institutional investor email reach outs and angel investor reach outs and do a lookup for keywords relevant to your industry to create further list of relevant VCs.
Request Alchemist to Do Market Research
If you haven’t already done so, you can request Alchemist research individual partners you should target by filling this form out here.
Search Online
Search Google, Crunchbase, Angellist, Gust, and media outlets (e.g. Techcrunch, Venturebeat, etc.) for companies in your space and see who funded them.
