I’ve been researching some offshore talent for awhile and have settled up on the Ukraine as having the best talent:cost ratio for backend Golang and Ruby Devs. Does anybody have any stories, pitfalls, helpful resources about this topic?

Many have had good experiences with outsourced teams in Ukraine, although the company had a VP of Eng with a full time team in Belgium already so it was easier for them to coordinate.

Things took longer to build, dev/design cycles were longer, and the code wasn’t as elegant. But none of those outweigh the benefits.

In general salaries are high. Good quality devs are all working in big companies on salaries ranging from 3K-6K USD/month - big offices with gym, language lessons and corporate events, travels to conferences. Finding dedicated folks who can buy into a vision and commit is very very hard. Most of them left the country already or already joined a startup.
