A tech scout says that their interest is strategic and if so involve the venture capital. Is that a typical thing? If so, what’s the best tactic? Take the meeting with vc arm and try not to get business side involved?

You want to have separate meetings with the decision makers from each. Best case you get both a sales contract and venture money, second best case is you get one or the other. And usually for strategic venture arms to make a decision they need to see that it has a business case internally.
