Using Tie to Identify Returning Visitors in Alia
If you use Tie on your site, Alia can automatically read Tie’s visitor-identification cookie. This gives you far more accurate “new vs. returning visitor” targeting than just Alia's targeting on its own.
How It Works
Tie places its own cookie and identity script on your site.
When Alia detects that a visitor has been recognized by Tie, we automatically classify that visitor as returning.
This applies even if the visitor clears cookies, switches devices, or uses a different browser — Tie’s identity layer helps maintain recognition.
As a result, your new-vs-returning targeting becomes significantly more reliable if you’re a Tie customer.
Targeting With Tie Data
Once Tie is active:
Default behavior: Any visitor Tie recognizes is treated as a returning visitor inside Alia.
You can also create custom popup campaigns that target visitors recognized by Tie — for example:
Returning visitors only
Visitors who have completed actions tracked through Tie
Why This Helps
Using Tie with Alia lets you:
Improve accuracy when differentiating new vs. returning users
Reduce misclassification caused by cookie deletion or device changes
Build more personalized and effective popup campaigns
