Troubleshooting Your Attentive Integration

Learn how to resolve common setup issues between Alia and Attentive to ensure your SMS marketing workflows function perfectly.

Opt-in Configuration Mismatches

One of the most frequent issues users encounter involves a mismatch between the opt-in settings in Alia and the configurations within your Attentive account. If these are not synced, subscribers may not be added to your lists correctly or may fail to receive their initial text messages.

Specifically, you must ensure that your Single Opt-in status matches on both platforms:

  • If you have checked the Single Opt-in box within the Alia editor for your signup unit, this feature must also be enabled and approved within your Attentive dashboard.

  • If Attentive is set to Double Opt-in (requiring a "Y" or "YES" confirmation from the user) but Alia is sending data as Single Opt-in, the integration may fail to trigger the expected subscriber flow.

  • Always verify your Attentive "Sign-up Source" settings to confirm which opt-in method is currently active for your API integrations.

💡 Enabling Single Opt-in in Alia does not automatically override your Attentive settings. You must contact your Attentive CSM or update your settings in the Attentive UI to ensure Single Opt-in is supported for your account.

Assigning the Correct Welcome Journey

When a user signs up through an Alia popup, the data is pushed to Attentive via a specific Signup Unit ID. A common mistake is failing to associate that specific unit with an active "Welcome Journey" in Attentive.

To ensure your new subscribers receive their automated messages, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Signup Unit ID you are using in your Alia integration settings.

  2. Select the three dots to the right of the sign up unit.

  3. Select the option to reassign, and then select the correct welcome journey you want to assign to the signup unit.

  4. Verify that the journey is Turned On. Even if the integration is sending data, the messages will not fire if the journey is in "Draft" or "Paused" status.

Using Discount Codes in Attentive

Currently, Attentive cannot fetch the dynamic discount codes created by Alia during a user's session. For a seamless experience, we recommend the following:

  • Use Attentive’s native discount tools to generate and insert codes into your SMS Welcome Journeys.

  • Ensure the discount value offered in your Alia popup matches the value of the code sent via Attentive to maintain brand consistency.

  • Direct users to check their texts for their "discount code."
