Overview

Implementing Tap-to-Text (also known as Click-to-Text) is one of the most effective ways to grow your SMS list. This feature allows mobile users to subscribe by simply tapping a button, which opens their native messaging app with a pre-filled keyword and phone number. To use this feature in Alia, you must first generate a subscribe link within your Klaviyo account.

Step 1: Retrieve your Klaviyo Subscribe Link

Before configuring your popup in Alia, you need to grab the unique identifier from your Klaviyo dashboard that triggers the SMS opt-in process.

  • Log in to your Klaviyo dashboard and navigate to Audience > Growth Tools.

  • Look for the option labeled Manage Subscribe Links and click on it.

  • Find the specific link for the SMS list you wish to grow. If you haven't created one yet, follow Klaviyo's prompts to generate a new subscribe link.

  • Copy the link provided for the desired list. You will need this for the final configuration step in Alia.

Note: Ensure that your Klaviyo SMS settings are fully configured and that you have a valid sending number active before testing the Tap-to-Text functionality.

Step 2: Configure the Alia Submit Button

Once you have your link, you need to tell Alia to trigger the SMS app when a user interacts with your phone collection step.

  • Open your popup editor in Alia and navigate to the Phone Step of your form.

  • Click on the Submit Button to open its settings.

  • On the right-hand settings panel, scroll down to the section labeled "When form is submitted".

  • Locate the Run action dropdown menu and select Open URL.

  • In the Tap To Text field that appears, paste the link you copied from Klaviyo.

  • Ensure you check the Tap to text checkbox to enable the specialized mobile behavior.

  • Click Publish to save your changes and take the feature live.

Best Practices for SMS Popups

To ensure the best user experience and maintain compliance, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Mobile Only: Tap-to-Text is designed for mobile devices. Ensure your popup design is responsive and looks great on smaller screens.

  • Clear CTA: Use button text like "Text to Join" or "Send SMS" to let users know exactly what will happen when they click.

  • Compliance: Always include the required legal language regarding data rates and consent near your SMS collection fields.
