Best Practices for Getting the Most Out of Prism AI

Learn how you can maximize your performance with Prism AI using our best practices.

Written by Cory Gill

1. Maximize Traffic to Prism AI

To get the best results, Prism AI needs as much data as possible.

  • Avoid running a split test of Prism AI vs. no Prism AI at the start

  • The more traffic Prism AI sees, the faster and better it can learn

  • Limiting traffic slows down optimization and delays results

Think of Prism AI as something that improves with scale. More exposure leads to better performance.

2. Be Patient While It Trains

Prism AI is continuously learning and optimizing.

  • Expect a training period before peak performance

  • Results will improve over time as more data is collected

  • You can track progress in the Prism AI analytics page

Early performance is not the final outcome, the system gets smarter with time.

3. Start Simple

It’s best to begin with a focused setup, then expand.

Recommended starting point:

  • 1–2 targeting dimensions (pages, UTMs, etc.)

  • 1 Prism AI element

  • 1–4 variants within that element

The exact setup depends on your traffic:

  • Lower traffic → keep things simpler

  • Higher traffic → you can support more variants and complexity earlier

This ensures Prism AI has enough data per variant to optimize effectively.

4. Scale Gradually Over Time

As your Prism AI setup gets trained:

  • Add more targeting dimensions

  • Introduce additional variants

  • Expand to multiple Prism AI elements across your popup

This phased approach helps maintain performance while increasing sophistication.

5. Start with High-Impact Targeting Dimensions

For most brands, the best place to begin is:

  • Initial path

  • UTMs:

    • Source

    • Medium

    • Campaign

These dimensions provide strong coverage across different visitor types and acquisition channels, giving Prism AI meaningful data to optimize against.

6. Focus on High-Impact Elements First

When deciding where to apply Prism AI, start with elements that drive the most impact:

Copy:

  • Heading copy:

    • "You've Got X% Off"

    • "Claim Your X% Off"

    • "Want X% Off?"

    • "You've Won X% Off!"

    • "Unlock Your X% Off"

    • "Mystery Discount", "Exclusive Discount", "Special Discount"

  • Button/submit copy:

    • "Claim"

    • "Activate"

    • "Continue"

    • "Submit"

  • Subheading copy:

    • Remove it entirely

    • "Limited Time Only"

Imagery:

  • Background images:

    • Lifestyle

    • Product

    • Different Collections

    • Bestsellers

    • For different types of buyers (Men's, Women's, Kids)

  • Key visual elements:

    • Different button colors: primary, secondary

    • X button position - left vs. right side

First slide experiences:

  • Test different engagement styles such as:

    • Mini-quiz / question

    • Scratch-off

    • Micro-commit

These areas typically have the biggest influence on conversion rates.

7. Prioritize Mobile Experiences

Most traffic comes from mobile, so start there.

  • Focus on elements that appear on mobile screens

  • Avoid prioritizing desktop-only elements early on

  • Ensure variants are optimized for smaller screens and fast interaction

8. Continue Iterating

Prism AI works best when it has strong inputs.

  • Regularly introduce new variants to test

  • Build on what’s already performing well

  • Use insights from analytics to guide expansion

9. Lean on the Alia Team

If you’re unsure what to test next or need inspiration:

  • Reach out to the team for ideas and recommendations

  • We can help identify high-impact variants and strategies based on what’s working across other brands

By starting simple, feeding Prism AI enough traffic, and expanding thoughtfully over time, you’ll unlock the full potential of dynamic, personalized popup optimization.
