What This Enables
When a visitor completes a mini quiz in your Alia popup and submits their SMS (e.g. "What's your main health concern?" or "What are you shopping for?"), their answers are automatically passed to Attentive as custom profile properties. You can then use those properties to create dynamic segments and send tailored SMS flows based on how each subscriber answered.
Before You Start
Make sure:
Your Alia popup includes a mini quiz step with at least one question
Your Alia account is connected to Attentive via the integrations page
Subscribers have been collected through the popup so there's data to segment
Step-by-Step: Creating the Segment in Attentive
Step 1: Go to Segments
In your Attentive dashboard, navigate to the Segments section from the left-hand menu and click Create Segment.
Step 2: Choose Dynamic Segment
From the options shown (Dynamic Segment, Segment Templates, etc.), select Create Dynamic Segment. This type of segment updates automatically as new subscribers match or stop matching the criteria.
Step 3: Set the Condition
When prompted to choose a condition, select "A subscriber's characteristics". This allows you to filter subscribers based on custom profile data — which is where your Alia mini quiz answers live.
Step 4: Find Your Mini Quiz Field
A pop-up will appear asking you to choose a characteristic. Select the custom property that you have set in the popup for the mini quiz.
To find the custom property set in Alia, navigate to your popup.
You'll see a list of fields on the left side. Look for the field with a question mark icon on the left-hand side - this is the field text that Alia sends over to Attentive when a subscriber completes the quiz.
💡 Copy the exact field text from this screen, then paste it into the search bar within Attentive to find the right field quickly.
Step 5: Map It to the Integration
Search for the copied field text in the characteristic section Attentive. Your mini quiz field value will appear under Profile (for example: "health concern"). Click on it to select it.
Step 6: Select a Value
Once you've selected the quiz field, the default answer values from your mini quiz will automatically populate as options (e.g. "Joint pain", "Gut health", "Energy & focus").
Select the value you want to segment by. Attentive will immediately show you the matching subscribers and the segment will stay dynamic - updating automatically as new people complete the quiz.
Example Use Case
Let's say your popup asks: "What's your main health concern?" with options like:
Joint & Muscle Pain
Gut Health
Sleep & Recovery
Energy & Focus
You could create four separate segments, one for each answer and send each group a different SMS campaign featuring the most relevant products. This kind of personalisation typically drives significantly higher click and conversion rates compared to a generic broadcast.
Things to Keep in Mind
The field text in the Attentive segment must match the field text sent from Alia exactly. If the quiz question changes in Alia, you may need to update the segment.
Only subscribers who completed the mini quiz step and submitted their email and SMS will have these properties on their profile. Subscribers who skipped the submission won't appear in these segments.
Segments are dynamic, meaning they update in real time as new quiz responses come in, no need to refresh or rebuild them manually.
