Before You Begin

Please note:

  • Mailchimp is currently an email-only integration

  • SMS subscriber data is not passed into Mailchimp at this time

Step 1: Create Your Mailchimp API Key

1. Log in to your Mailchimp account

2. From the dashboard, go to:

  • Home

  • Click your profile icon in the top-right corner

  • Click the Profile tab

3. Click the Extras dropdown menu

4. Select API Keys

5. Click Create A Key

6. Name your API key

7. Copy the API key to your clipboard

Step 2: Connect Mailchimp Inside Alia

1. Open your Alia dashboard

2. Navigate to the Integrations tab

3. Find Mailchimp and click Connect

4. Paste in your Mailchimp API key

5. Select the audience you'd like email signups to sync to

6. Save the integration

Once connected, new email signups collected through Alia will automatically sync into your selected Mailchimp audience.

What Data Is Passed to Mailchimp?

When a visitor submits their email through an Alia popup, we create or update their profile inside your selected Mailchimp audience.

Alia currently passes the following data to Mailchimp:

  • Email Address

  • Subscription Status

    • Subscribers are marked as either:

      • subscribed

      • unsubscribed

    • This is determined based on whether the visitor opted into email marketing

  • First Name

    • Passed into the FNAME merge field if a name was collected in the popup

Additionally, Alia automatically applies the following tag to synced profiles:

  • Alia

This tag is added as an active Mailchimp audience tag and can be used for segmentation, filtering, and automation workflows inside Mailchimp.

Please note that SMS subscriber information is not currently supported in the Mailchimp integration.
