How to Upgrade Your Alia Plan

How to upgrade from Basic to Fully Managed, move to a higher visitor tier, and what upgrading does to your billing, free trial, and existing popups.

Written by Camilo Pitta

You can upgrade your Alia plan at any time, including during your free trial. This article covers both kinds of upgrade: moving from the Basic plan to the Fully Managed plan, and moving to a higher visitor tier on your current plan. It also explains how upgrading affects your billing, free trial, and existing popups.

There are two kinds of upgrades in Alia:

  • Changing plan type — moving from the Basic plan to the Fully Managed plan, which adds hands-on service.

  • Changing visitor tier — staying on your current plan but moving to a higher visitor cap because your traffic has grown.

Both are done on the same screen in your Alia dashboard and take effect immediately.

Moving from a Basic Plan to Fully Managed

The Fully Managed plan includes everything in the Basic plan, plus:

  • A dedicated Customer Success Manager

  • Fully managed in-app A/B testing

  • A personal Slack support channel

You can upgrade from the Basic plan to the Fully Managed plan at any time, including during your free trial.

To upgrade:

  1. Navigate to the upgrade section of the app by clicking the drop-down arrow on the top right in the dashboard:

  2. On the next page, move the visitor counter slider and click Upgrade in one of the available plans.

  3. Approve the newly selected plan.

What the Fully Managed plan adds

The Fully Managed plan includes everything in the Basic plan, plus:

  • A dedicated Customer Success Manager

  • Fully managed in-app A/B testing

  • A personal Slack support channel

How upgrading affects your billing

If you are on Shopify: billing for plan upgrades is handled by Shopify on a pro-rata basis. You are charged according to the time you spent on each plan, so you are not double-charged, and you are not billed a full period for a partial one. You do not need to wait for your billing cycle to reset to upgrade.

If you are not on Shopify: your billing runs through Stripe instead. Start a chat with our virtual agent for a hand-off to our support team, and we will walk you through the upgrade and confirm how your charge will be calculated.

How upgrading affects your free trial

The Basic plan comes with a 14-day free trial and the Fully Managed plan comes with a 30-day free trial. If you upgrade from Basic to Fully Managed during your 14-day trial, you will receive the additional trial days that come with the Fully Managed plan to experience a full 30-day trial period.

How upgrading affects your popups and data

Upgrading does not reset or rebuild anything you have already configured. Your popups, campaigns, settings, and collected data are unaffected, and your popups keep running throughout the change.

Setting up your Slack channel after upgrading

Once you upgrade to the Fully Managed plan, your Fully Managed features become available on your account, including your personal Slack support channel. To get your Slack channel set up, send our support team your preferred email address and we will create the channel and invite you.

Moving to a higher visitor tier

Alia pricing is partially based on visitor volume. You may receive an email notice if your traffic grows past your current visitor cap; you should move to the next visitor tier at the price shown for that tier to continue service without interruption.

Alia does not upgrade your plan automatically. There are no automatic plan upgrades or automatic tier changes. Moving to a higher visitor tier is always a manual change you make yourself, using the steps in this article.

You do not need to wait until your billing cycle resets. If you are billed through Shopify, the change is prorated by Shopify, so you are charged according to the time you spent on each tier. If you are not on Shopify, your billing runs through Stripe, and we would be happy to discuss the change charges with you.
