Alia currently supports three campaign types:
Default for standard popup experiences
Embedded Form for forms placed directly within your website
Subscription Upsell for encouraging shoppers to switch a one-time purchase to a subscription
Note: After you create a campaign, you can't change its type, so it's worth choosing the right one from the start. To keep the same popups under a different type, duplicate the campaign and choose the new type on the duplicate.
Which campaign type should I use?
Campaign type | Suitable for | How it appears | Anything else to know |
Default | Email and SMS capture, promotional offers, quizzes, and most other popups | Appears as an overlay on your storefront | Best choice for most traditional popup experiences |
Embedded Form | Forms that should feel like part of the page | Displays directly within your website layout | You add an embed snippet where you want the form to appear |
Subscription Upsell | Turning one-time purchases into subscriptions | As a popup when a shopper adds one of your selected products to their cart as a one-time purchase | Requires a subscription app that creates selling plans in Shopify |
Default
This is the standard campaign type and is best suited for experiences such as email or SMS capture, promotional offers, quizzes, and other popup campaigns that should appear as an overlay rather than as part of the page itself. If you’re creating an Alia popup and don't need embedded placement or subscription-specific functionality, Default is the right choice.
Embedded Form
Use an Embedded Form when you want your Alia experience to sit directly inside your website rather than appear as an overlay. Embedded Forms can be useful for placements such as:
Store footers
Product pages
Landing pages
Dedicated signup areas
Other sections of your storefront

Subscription Upsell
Use a Subscription Upsell campaign to increase subscriptions on products that have selling plans. When a shopper adds one of those products to their cart as a one-time purchase, Alia shows a popup inviting them to switch to the subscription version instead. This campaign type is available for Shopify stores only.
Note: You'll need a subscription app on your Shopify store that creates selling plans. Alia uses those existing selling plans when displaying subscription options and doesn't create subscription plans itself.
