Amazon Music Artist Profiles

Learn more about artist profiles on Amazon Music.

Updated over 2 years ago

Amazon Music is a home for millions of artists to share their music with their fans and community. The content that is shared on Amazon Music is delivered through music aggregators, also known as, distributors.

These aggregators use a communication technology that delivers artist content to Amazon Music electronically, which is then displayed to customers. This communication system is referred to as a DDEX ERN delivery feed, or simply, a delivery feed; and it is used widely throughout the industry to deliver and ingest new or updated metadata. While highly reliable, this technology is complex and sometimes the signals that help identify artist profile variables do not communicate properly. When this happens artist profiles can display incomplete or inaccurate data, such as, other artists music on a single profile, missing music from an artist’s profile, and/ or incorrect artist names, among other issues.

While we have a number of signals in place to correct these issues before they surface on Amazon Music, we recognize that they still occur and have created tools that allow our industry partners to surface them to the correct teams at Amazon.

This article deep dives into the many different issues that occur on an artist profile and will provide step-by-step instructions on how to correct some of the most commonly reported issues.

Before jumping in, first, let’s cover the basics...

What is an artist profile page?

An artist profile page or artist profile, is a compilation of an artist music catalog on Amazon Music. Artist profiles display a single artist’s music and should reflect their identity to their fans. When a listening customer is visiting an artist profile, customers can listen to the artists Latest Songs, Releases, Featured Playlists, Related Stations, Top Songs/ Albums, Appears On singles, listen to Podcasts about the artist, Follow the artist and shop the artists Merch all from a single detail page.

How can I find my artist profile?

Artist profiles can be found a number of ways, most commonly is by searching for the artist name in the search bar located at the top of the web player, or by clicking "Find" on the mobile app.

However, some artists can be more difficult to find through search for various reasons. When someone is unable to find the correct artist profile, they can use the search bar to look up the artist by artist name and song/ album title of the artists released music.

For example, if someone wanted to view Taylor Swifts artist profile, they could search for "Love Story by Taylor Swift" or "Taylor Swift Love Story", as well as many other variations to render the same results. Depending on the artists, a number or just few results will populate, but the experience does not change. In order to find the correct artist profile, the user can simply click on the artist name below the title of the song that most accurately resembles the artist.

Example:

The same steps on web can also be applied on mobile.

I found my artist profile, but some or most of the music does not belong to me. Why is this happening and how can I fix this?

Earlier in this article we talked about how we use delivery feeds to ingest new music and accept changes to previously delivered music. We also talked about how sometimes these feeds can miscommunicate with one each other, which can result in detail pages displaying incorrect music from multiple artists or missing music altogether. That's the why. Now let's talk about how to fix it.

Queue in Amazon Music for Artists...

Amazon Music lets customer search and stream hundreds of millions of songs and Amazon Music for Artists gives artists the ability to tap into that customer data by analyzing streams, voice data, playlist positioning and more. Our service also lets its users take ownership of their artist profiles by taking actions like uploading new music and making corrects to artist profiles on Amazon Music through the Report Issue tool.

  3. Merge two profiles with content from the same artist together

    1. My content is on a different artist's profile”

Each path requests different information from the requester depending on the chosen selection.

How do I know which option to select?

  • If the requestor selects option 1, "my content is on a different artist's profile", then the tool will assume that the majority of the content on artist profile on Amazon Music belongs to another artist or multiple other artists. This option can also be used to merge two profiles together.

  • If the requestor selects option 2, "my artist profile has incorrect content", then the tool will assume that the majority of the content on the artists profile on Amazon Music belongs to the artist requesting the change.
