AI Image Gen lets you create professional product and lifestyle images directly inside PXM — no design software or photography session required. Provide a reference image and a text prompt, and the tool generates images you can save straight to your product folder.
Before You Begin
AI Image Gen must be enabled on your PXM instance. If you don't see the Generate with AI option, contact your Customer Success Manager to request access.
You'll also need:
A reference image — a photo of your product already in PXM, or one you upload from your device (JPG, PNG, JPEG, or WEBP, up to 10 MB combined per session)
How to Access AI Image Gen
Open a product folder or category folder and navigate to the All or Images tab. Select the images you would like to reference then click the Make An Image button — the generation interface opens directly. (You can also click on the 3 dots at the bottom of the screen and select Generate Image)
You can also access your generation history and launch new sessions from Optimize → AI Image Gen in the left sidebar.
Generating an Image
Step 1: Select a Reference Image
You may use up to 14 reference images. If you would like to reference more images you can:
Select an existing image from PXM by clicking Add Image(s)
Upload from your device — JPG, PNG, JPEG, or WEBP (10 MB combined limit per session)
Paste a URL — reference an image hosted online
Tip: Higher-quality, cleaner reference photos produce more accurate results.
Step 2: Choose an Archetype (Optional)
Archetypes are style presets that guide the visual tone of the output — options include Lifestyle, White Background, Infographic, and more. Hover over any archetype to see a description before selecting. If you skip this step, the AI relies on your prompt alone to determine style.
Step 3: Write Your Prompt
Type your description in the prompt box (up to 2,000 characters). Be specific: describe the background, scene, lighting, mood, or any objects you want in the image.
Tip: For products with proportional detail — furniture, lighting fixtures, counter stools — describe scale relative to a familiar object. For example: "this stool should reach approximately seat-height relative to a standard dining table." This works better than specifying raw dimensions.
Step 4: Use / Commands (Optional)
Type / in the prompt box to access shortcut commands:
Aspect Ratio — set a specific output ratio
Lighting — specify lighting conditions
Target Platform — optimize the output for a channel such as Amazon or Shopify
Step 5: Choose Resolution, Image Generation Count and Aspect Ratio
Select your output resolution. The default is 2K. Options: 1K, 2K, or 4K. Choose the number of image options you want generated. Select the aspect ratio of the image you would like to create.
Step 6: Generate Images
Click the arrow button to generate the image. You can cancel a generation in progress at any time.
Note: Every time you click Generate — including when editing — it uses image credits. See the Credits section below for per-resolution costs.
Amazon PDP Main Images
Select the Amazon PDP Main Image mode to generate images that automatically follow Amazon's main image compliance requirements (white background, product-only, etc.).
Saving Your Generated Images
After generating, choose one of two options:
Save to PXM — saves the image directly to the product folder you launched from. A "PXM Generated & Saved" icon marks AI-generated assets in your media library.
Download locally — download the image to your computer.
When saving an image to PXM, you can assign a custom file name before saving.
Generating Images for Multiple Products at Once
From the main files or products view, select multiple products by checking their boxes, then click Generate Image in the bottom-right corner. The tool opens and runs generation for all selected products.
Note: Each product uses its own reference image. Running 3 products at a time is a common workflow.
Viewing Past Generations
Go to Optimize → Image Gen in the left sidebar to see all previously generated images, view past prompts, and continue working from a previous session.
Note: Within an active session, use the copy icon in the prompt box to view and re-use prompts from earlier in the same session.
Tips for Best Results
Use clean, well-lit reference photos. Blurry or low-contrast images make it harder for the AI to accurately replicate your product.
Be specific. Include details about background, color palette, mood, and scene in your prompt.
Avoid fine text. Small text like ingredient lists or regulatory copy can appear blurry or inaccurate. Best results come from lifestyle shots, hero images, and benefit messaging with large, minimal text.
Anchor proportions. Describe product size relative to a known object instead of specifying dimensions.
Experiment with archetypes. Switching or removing an archetype can significantly change your output if the first attempt isn't right.
Credits
AI Image Gen is credit-based. Each time you click Generate, you produce four images, and each image consumes credits based on resolution:

Credits are worth $0.50 each. They do not expire and are not transferable or redeemable for cash.

Known Limitations
Small or dense text. Labels with fine print, ingredient lists, or regulatory copy may be blurry or inaccurate in generated images.
Product accuracy. The AI may occasionally generate the wrong product shape or color. A cleaner reference image usually improves this.
Edit mode. When editing a generated image, the original reference images are not displayed.
Proportional accuracy. Products with complex proportions (furniture, lighting) may not render to scale. Use relative-scale prompting as described in the Tips section.
Custom AI models. You cannot swap in a third-party AI model.
