Amplifi.io doesn't use folders in the traditional sense of most file systems or DAMs. However we utilize two types of organizational constructs we refer to as "folders" these are Category and Collection folders.

This is overview of their differences and when to use them.

Category Folders

  • Primarily used for navigational purposes

  • Can have only one parent Category Folder (due to inheritance abilities).

  • Can contain multiple Categories or Collection Folders as direct children.

  • Can force child Collection Folders to inherit: content, permissions, custom tabs, fields and data.

  • Can have its own 'Category' level content.

Collection Folders

  • Usually represents a product

  • Can live in multiple parent Category Folders.

  • Cannot have child folders.

  • May be forced to inherit: permissions, custom tabs, fields and data from a parent category.

  • Can have its own content and/or inherit content from a parent Category.

  • Collection folders are the leaf node of storage and are usually used to represent products within Amplifi.

  • Media within a collection is automatically assigned to tabs according to media type.
