A generic service is a service with a generalized name that you can clarify when adding this service to inspections and work orders. One generic service can replace multiple services of the same kind and help you avoid a long list of typical services.

For example, if your service list includes such services as “R&I Bumper”, “R&I Wheel”, “R&I Hood”, etc., you can replace them by creating just one generic service “R&I”. When you add this generic service to inspections and work orders, it can be automatically renamed based on your clarification, that is typing a clarification text or selecting a vehicle part.

Configure Generic Services

You can save a service as generic by entering clarification settings in the Generic Service section.

Optional Clarification means that you can add a generic service to inspections and work orders either with or without clarification.

  • When you add an “optional” generic service with no clarification, the service name will not be changed.

  • When you add an “optional” generic service with a clarification, the service name will be changed based on your clarification.

Required Clarification means that you can add a generic service to inspections and work orders only with clarification.

  • When you try to save an inspection or a work order with a “required” generic service that has no clarification, the appropriate error message appears.

Prefix is a generic part of the service name that replaces the original service name by default.

  • When you add a generic service with a prefix, this prefix is shown in the Clarification field by default, and clarification can be added to the prefix.

Add Generic Services

When you add a generic service with the Money, Percentage, Labor, Price Matrix, or Bundle price type to inspections and work orders you can clarify its name by entering the appropriate text in the Clarification field.

Also, if a generic service with the Money, Percentage, or Labor price type is assigned to vehicle parts, you can clarify service name by selecting a vehicle part.

You can clarify a generic service with the Parts price type by selecting the appropriate part.

If you select multiple parts, the part services will be added with the appropriate clarification.

When you add a generic labor service to the Parts & Labor bundle, the name of the selected part gets automatically added to the name of the labor service.

If generic services are assigned as additional services to a service with the Price Matrix price type, their names will be clarified based on the selected panel.

If a service with the Bundle price type includes generic services, you can clarify their names when adding them to the bundle service.

You can add a clarification to the Conventional Repair Bundle service if it is saved as generic.

If a generic service was added to a monitored work order, the clarified service name is shown in repair order phase.

You can view clarified names of generic services on printouts.
