Exporting your work

Export notes to HTML, LaTeX, PDF, or Word (DOCX) from the note menu.

Updated today

When you are ready to share or submit, Anara exports your notes to Word, PDF, HTML, or LaTeX. Citations carry into every format — so whether you are submitting to a journal, sharing with a collaborator, or continuing in LaTeX, your references come with you.

Export formats

  • Word (DOCX) — Compatible with Microsoft Word and Google Docs. The most universally compatible format for sharing with collaborators or submitting to advisors who expect Word files.

  • PDF — A fixed-layout version of your note. Best for sharing a finished document that should look the same on any device, or for printing.

  • HTML — Exports the note as a web page. Useful for importing into content management systems or web publishing tools.

  • LaTeX — Exports the note as a .tex file. Best for researchers who use LaTeX for typesetting and want to continue editing after drafting in Anara.

How to export a note

  1. Open the note you want to export.

  2. Open the note menu (the options button near the top of the editor).

  3. Select Export.

  4. Choose your format: HTML, LaTeX, PDF, or Word.

  5. The file downloads to your device.

What is included in the export

The export includes all formatted content: headings, lists, tables, code blocks, inline citations, and links. Formatting is converted to match the target format as closely as possible.

Inline citations are included in all export formats. In Word and PDF exports, citations appear in the format you have selected in Settings > Preferences > Editor > Citation format. In LaTeX, citations are formatted for use in a LaTeX document.

Tip: LaTeX users: The LaTeX export gives you a clean starting point. You may need to adjust the preamble and bibliography formatting to match your journal's template, but the content and structure will be there.

Tips

  • Set your citation format before exporting. The format selected in Preferences is what appears in your exported file.

  • For collaborators who do not use Anara, Word is the most compatible format.

  • If you want to print your note directly, PDF gives the cleanest result.

If something isn't working

The export is missing formatting. Some complex formatting (like nested tables or custom colors) may not convert perfectly to all formats. Simplify the note structure before exporting if you see issues.

Citations are missing from the export. Make sure the documents being cited are still in your library. If a document was deleted, the citation link may break. Re-insert the citation if needed.
