Angi’s 2025 State of Home Spending Report showcases how generational differences are starting to significantly impact the home improvement industry, with Millennials outspending every other generation on total home project spending per household.

Total home project spending increased slightly in 2025 to an average of $12,472 per household, up from $12,050 in 2024. The average number of projects completed also increased from 9 to 10.

Home Improvement Challenges

Millennials face unique challenges despite leading in spending:

  • High Mortgage Rates and Costs: Millennials are entering homeownership later amid fluctuating mortgage rates and higher project costs, often prompting them to renovate their current homes instead of moving.

  • Stress: 40% of Millennials reported increased stress from mandatory home repair projects in 2025, which was higher than other surveyed generations.

For homeowners across all generations, budget-related issues were a major concern, with 56% facing issues on maintenance projects and 55% on improvement projects.

Homeowners are planning to balance maintenance with larger improvement projects in 2026.
